Uncle Joe by thenumber42 Uncle Joe by thenumber42
My art teacher said that a print of this should be posted in all Starbucks establishments. Heck yeah, I'd be rich!

Done as an art assignment where we had to select a piece and recreate something about it, the artist's style, whatever. I chose Jim Dine's Two Blackish Robes and just stuck a random guy in the robe. I was thinking of some scary-uncle-who-takes-in-the-kids-in-Victorian-children's-book type character. (Yeah, Count Olaf!) That coffee mug was originally going to be a candle.

Thanks to ~taintofinnocence for dubbing him Joe, which was a natural thing to do.

I CAN'T GET RID OF THAT LINE DOWN THE MIDDLE FROM SCANNING IT IN PIECES ARRRRRGH

Acrylic paint on watercolor paper, editting in Photoshop 7. (should have used matte varnish...)

It's pretty good. I don't know how to describe it, but it's a bit... splotchy? I don't know. Not the best I've seen you do, but I like it anyway. I'd give it a 7/10, with 5 being average. So essentially, I like it, and I'm sure you'll get better and better working in this medium.

Yeah, the painting I copied it from was splotchy too. Not something I'm used to doing, I like it smoother. And his head's kind of big, or his body's kind of thin, whatever.

Caffeine can help weight loss, though.
